Burgermeister Beer Restaurant in Red Square

Burgermesiter Beer Restaurant Terrace

I have passed the Burgermeister Beer Restaurant many times while walking through Red Square. Even when looking for a place to eat or have a beer, I discounted it immediately. I naively thought that because of the location, the prices would be high and geared to the tourist trade. Having now tried this place for myself, I will freely admit I was wrong.

After being invited to a going away party at Burgermeister Beer Restaurant, I showed up on a nice sunny Moscow afternoon and grabbed a seat on the sunny terrace. To be honest, it was a bit too sunny, but you can hardly blame the restaurant for that!

When seated you are given the massive beer menu, which really is the main focus of this restaurant. There are at least 100 choices, which to me is a bit overwhelming. Beers from all over the world feature, as well as all the Russian classics. The prices vary, with the imported beers being quite pricey, but any that are brewed locally are very reasonably priced. Burgermesiter Beer Restaurant is the kind of place where you can drink and dine on a budget or go all out.

Once I had quenched my thirst with some beers and the rest of the group arrived, we began ordering food. The menu is your typical bistro/Western European fare, with a couple of Russian options thrown in for good measure. For such a central location, the food was quite reasonably priced, with most dishes under 500RUB. The meals themselves were OK, but not overly impressive. They easily serve the purpose of getting some food in your belly during an afternoon drinking session, but if you are looking for a fine dining experience there are better options.

Inside the restaurant there are a number of comfortable booths and a lot of television screens where sporting events are shown. I for one plan to head back to the Burgermesiter Beer Restaurant some time to watch the football once the premier league season starts up again!

Getting to the Burgermesiter Beer Restaurant

As you exit the main doors of the Tetralnaya metro (intersection of dark blue, red and green lines) take a right and you can’t miss it.
