Starlite Diner looks like an American diner, it’s open 24 hours a day like an American diner and by god the food is like an American diner. This is the perfect place to go when you have had your fill of the local fare and have a hankering for a good old burger.
There are several American style diners in Moscow and I have tried a few – most tick a few boxes here and there, but mostly they fall short. The Starlite Diner is one of the oldest in Moscow and it is easy to see why it is still going strong.
No one could tell me exactly how long the diner has been in existence. When asked, one customer just laughed and said ‘forever’ and he may just be right. I’m told it has been a long time hang-out for expats and it still continues to draw the crowds in every night and day.
The menu is varied and contains all the items you would expect in an American style diner. There are lots of burgers, fries, Tex-Mex and a few localised specialties thrown in for good measure.
The drinks menu is great but one item is outstanding – alcoholic milkshakes! We tried the salted caramel and dark rum milkshake it was absolute perfection. I may just have found the perfect drink to cheer me up on those dark days when the world is against me.
In total, Starlite Diner has three locations in Moscow. You can find the location nearest to you (in English) on their website: http://www.starlite.ru/
