After a visit to the Ice Sculpture Exhibition at Park Poebdy we decided to warm up before the journey home with a cup of coffee and a bite to eat at a nearby café. En-route to our regular haunt we were approached by a sales man who encouraged us to try a new establishment – so feeling adventurous we decided to check it out.  The City Social Cafe definitely lived up to its name – you are greeted with lively music and a well thought out décor and seating arrangement.

There are secluded booths, which were filled with groups of friends passing the time by playing a variety of board game.

A central area downstairs which is devoted to families with play areas for children to socialize in and enjoy Lego, games and craft activities allowing parent’s the chance to sit back relax and enjoy a relaxing afternoon meal without having to worry if their children are being too loud.

Upstairs, is a quieter affair with tables for 2 and the back area for larger groups. All of this is complimented by a large screen TV showing live sports ensuring all members of the family are satisfied.

The menu at The City Social Cafe was the usual Russian expansive offering of sushi, pizzas, burgers, steaks and much more. On this occasion we chose to share a starter of beets and goats cheese – it was a little disappointing and the cheese was not quite as good as you would expect but edible all the same. After a rather long wait, I suspect due to the large volume of people in the venue, we received the second course of beef stroganoff, which was served, with a generous helping of mashed potato. The second course was served ‘piping hot’ and tasted as good as it looked – the beef was tender and the generous helping of mushrooms was delicious.  To finish off we ordered coffee and a lemon meringue pie – this was the best part of the meal and the meringue was perfect!

I will definitely return to The City Social Cafe and next time will try the pizza as it seemed to be the most popular choice and they definitely looked tempting. If you are looking for a relaxing afternoon with a group of friends or family then this is definitely worth a visit.
